Microsoft 365 Copilot
A tiernew this weekMicrosoft's deeply embedded AI assistant across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams — now faster, cleaner, and increasingly agentic.
Kai's verdict
If your life runs in Microsoft 365, this is the most contextually aware AI you can get — it knows your inbox, your files, your meetings. But if you're not already M365-native, the licensing maze and prerequisite subscription make it a hard sell versus more open alternatives. (Verdict pending Phi's full review.)
Strengths
- Unmatched native integration across the entire M365 app suite — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote
- Work IQ intelligence layer learns your style, habits, and org context over time for increasingly personalized responses
- Microsoft Graph grounding means Copilot searches your actual emails, chats, files, and meetings — not just the web
- Agentic Researcher and Analyst agents handle multi-step reasoning with source-cited outputs
- Enterprise-grade permissions inheritance — Copilot only sees what you're already allowed to see
Weaknesses
- Pricing structure is genuinely confusing — Copilot Chat, Copilot Business, Copilot Enterprise, and personal plans are four different things
- Deep functionality requires an existing M365 subscription as a prerequisite — no standalone path
- General-purpose chat and creative tasks still lag behind ChatGPT and Claude outside the Office context
Best for
Organizations and power users already deep in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem who want AI woven into their daily Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams workflows rather than a separate tab to switch to.
Pricing
Free (Copilot Chat w/ M365) + $18/user/mo Business + $30/user/mo Enterprise
Copilot Chat is free for all eligible Microsoft 365 subscribers. The full Copilot add-on is $18/user/mo (Business, up to 300 users, annual) or $30/user/mo (Enterprise). Consumer plans (M365 Personal/Family) now bundle Copilot directly.
