YouTube AI Likeness Detection
A tiernew this weekYouTube's proactive deepfake scanner that watches the entire platform for unauthorized AI-generated copies of your face and lets you request removal.
Kai's verdict
Finally a platform taking the deepfake problem seriously at scale — this is basically Content ID for your face, and expanding it to all adults is the right move. The government-ID-plus-biometrics enrollment ask is the real friction point you need to weigh before signing up. (Verdict pending Phi's full review.)
Strengths
- Platform-scale automated scanning — proactively crawls all new YouTube uploads rather than waiting for you to stumble upon a deepfake
- Direct takedown pipeline built in — flagged content routes straight into YouTube's privacy complaint process from a single dashboard
- Content ID-style architecture means it's already battle-tested at YouTube's infrastructure scale
- Biometric data reportedly not used to train Google's generative AI models (opt-in is separate and explicit)
- Covers agents/managers too — channel managers can act on behalf of enrolled talent without re-verification
Weaknesses
- Audio/voice cloning detection is still in development — only visual face matching is live right now
- Enrollment requires handing YouTube a government ID and biometric selfie, raising real privacy-tradeoff concerns that experts have flagged
- Still experimental; not available in all countries, detection accuracy is still being refined, and parody/satire content may survive removal requests anyway
Best for
Any adult creator, public figure, or private person who appears on camera and wants an automated early-warning system before a deepfake scam goes viral using their face.
